July 4th Week

The last week of June was reserved for going to our Vacation Home in Hoquiam (ok, Geoff bought it right out of college, and after 6 years we lost our renters) and fixing it up.  We planned on painting the exterior (not always a good plan on the coast of Washington), redoing the kitchen floor, and remodeling the bathroom.   Geoff went over late Thursday night and went shopping for supplies on Friday with our nephew Jake.  Jocelyn met Geoff's parents Saturday morning and made it over Saturday evening.  We spent Sunday at meeting and then down to the house for the kitchen repairs.

The floor had a couple of ridges that we cut out.  We also peeled up the loose tiles.

We vacuumed before "floating" these areas to level them out.

Monday, July 2
One of Geoff's former teachers Mr. Skaarvold was in the area for the week, so he came and helped us tear up the bathroom.  While he and Geoff's Dad worked on the bathroom, We worked on flooring the kitchen.  After we finished the floor, we worked on scraping the house (took the rest of the day) and then Dad worked on the trim in the kitchen.

The new kitchen floor.  We used Costco laminate snap-in flooring.  It looks so much better!  We kept thinking we would be rather doing this at our home in Colton!

The bathroom before we began.
Again, notice the wonderful hole to the left of the toilet.

We didn't take a single picture of Mr. Skaarvold working, but here is what he was doing.  The whole in the floor is now being replaced.

Ted pulled out one of the drawers of the vanity...it promptly fell apart.  Ted then said that he would build a new one.

It looked a little better then this before we scraped it...but not much.

Tuesday, July 3
Surprise - we woke up to rain.  So inside we went again.  We finished the kitchen trim and replaced all the appliances, and we worked on the bathroom floor.

Abby was a wonderful help - she especially loved when we were working on the floor as then she could really help!  Here is the new bathroom floor.

Ted is working on the caulking around the tub.

Geoff relaxing after finishing the last board.  We had some troubles with the one valve there leaking, so we hooked the faucet back up...leak gone!

And a brand new toilet!  That made it so we have to paint the bathroom!

Wednesday, July 4
We had planned on leaving today around 2...not to be.  Jake and Geoff went down to the house early to start taping for paint.  Jocelyn came down with lunch.  We painted until 7 pm.  We almost finished.  Needless to say, we didn't leave at 2, so we stayed in Cle Ellum with Geoff's parents, then it was off to home for Jocelyn for work, and Spokane for Geoff for a basketball tournament.

Notice - we're almost finished!  Just need to finish the eaves and white trim around the windows.

The week wasn't just work.  Grammy Barb took care of Aislyn at Geoff's sister Laurie & Lances house there in Hoquiam.  We had wonderful evenings and mornings there...thanks for entertaining our daughter and fixing us up some awesome grub!  We love visiting the Gordon Family.

The following pictures were taken on Geoff's phone, so they aren't the greatest of quality.

Aislyn and her cousin Maddie were quite the performers.

Aislyn loved roaming around on the 4-wheeler.

She also loved playing the DS with her cousin Kort.

Jake also helped entertain Aislyn.
